Slowdive are recording their first album in 21 years!

It’ll be their first record since 1995’s ‘Pygmalion’.

After reuniting two years ago for a string of shows, Slowdive are recording their first new album in 21 years! Bloomin’ heck!

In a new interview with Stereogum, the band’s Rachel Goswell confirmed that the band have “a lot of songs,” which they’re in the process of recording. “The guys have been in the studio for the last couple of days doing some drum and bass tracks,” she said, adding “we did quite a lot of recording last year. It’s quite difficult because we’ve all got children and we all live in different parts of the country. As you get older, it is quite a challenge.”

“It’s all in hand. We’re hoping to get it finished by the end of July,” Rachel said. “It’s all planned.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Rachel spoke about the “freeing experience” of working on projects outside of Slowdive, and revealed that recurring hearing problems forced her to take a lengthy hiatus from music altogether. “I actually did lose a lot of hearing on my left side,” she explained, later adding “I feel really lucky, despite being half deaf. I do feel really lucky to get a second chance to do something like this.”

When we spoke to Rachel at Latitude 2014, Slowdive were newly reformed, and playing their first festival slot in 20 years. “The stars aligned,” she told DIY speaking about the timing of Slowdive getting back together. “It’s cheesy, but it’s true.”

Besides this new record, Slowdive also have a couple of other music projects on the go. Rachel is also in a ‘super-group’ called Minor Victories with members of Editors and Mogwai, as you do. Slowdive are also plotting a live album to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

This will be Slowdive’s first album since 1995’s ‘Pygmalion,’ which is flippin’ exciting stuff.
