Queens of the Stone Age are the cover stars of DIY’s July 2023 issue!

For as long as most of us can remember, Queens of the Stone Age have been worldwide festival mainstays, their swaggering riffs and doom-laced brand of rock on show for the more hedonistic among us. But over the last few years, cracks began to appear in the band’s solid foundations. Now, as the quintet return with their eighth album - the defiant ‘In Times New Roman…’ - we speak to Josh Homme and pals about some of the darker moments that have defined the more recent years, and how exactly they’ve strived to reignite their love for life, music and everything in between.

“I want to be good at surviving,” Josh Homme says, in our cover feature, “because as you get better at surviving, withstanding, enduring, getting knocked down and getting back up - as you get better at that, and after the five years I’ve been through, I’m actually so thankful because now something mildly rocky happens and I think, ‘That’s way below my paygrade, I couldn’t give a shit’. And it also binds you together with your people, these tough times, because you don’t know somebody ‘til everything goes wrong.”
