Paramore shout out Lime Garden & Yard Act as some of their favourite new British bands

Rozi Plain, Wet Leg and Loathe are also among their recent go-tos.

Across the making of ‘This Is Why’, Paramore found themselves leaning further into the more guitar-driven punked-up energy of indie legends such as Bloc Party, Foals and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. But - as they told us in the cover feature of our newly-released February 2023 issue - it wasn’t just the old guard that the trio found themselves inspired by; the new crop of brilliant British acts were also very much on their stereos, as Hayley Williams and Taylor York reveal tell us. “Y’all have the best bands of all time! It’s just true,” Taylor told us, before his bandmate Hayley continued: “It is! I was listening to Lime Garden on the way to the studio, and Wet Leg, of course. They started popping up on generated playlists randomly for me, and it was such an amazing discovery that felt so akin to being a teenager and accidentally hearing your new favourite band. Also, [there was] Shame, and Taylor listened to a ton of Loathe, which is the heavier side of what we grew up on. And I’m obsessed with Yard Act! Are Dry Cleaning big over there?” The band also name-checked London’s Rozi Plain, who released her album ‘PRIZE’ last month, and is now set to open for the band, alongside Bloc Party, on their UK tour later this year. “Rozi Plain is my new favourite artist in the world,” said Taylor. “She’s unbelievable - shout out to Rozi Plain!” “There’s so much great history in the bands we grew up loving - like Blur - from the UK,” Hayley picked back up, “but I think what’s cool is that it’s not ever stopped, and it’s continued to be innovative and fun and punk. It was really exciting that there was that amount of inspiration and excitability in the car on the way to the studio, and just feeling like, ‘Okay, we’re coming back into music when there’s a lot of really good stuff happening and it’s really gonna be fun to be part of it all’.” Check out the February 2023 issue of DIY below.
