Green Day Announce March Live Return, Cancel More Shows

Green Day had an up and down 2012. At one point things seemed to be going well, with a triumphant ‘secret’ set on Reading festival’s second stage. Three studio albums followed, to mixed critical reception, but it was the public meltdown of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong that ended up dominating the three piece’s year.

After stints in rehab and cancelled tour dates, the band are planning to return to the stage for the first time since September of last year at the end of March. Their first show as it stands will be at Chicago’s Allstate Arena, meaning that previously scheduled dates set to start next week have been pulled.
“We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us.”
“We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months,” the band comment in a press release. “We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows.”

Meanwhile a message from Billie Joe posted on Instagram reads: “Dear friends… I just want to thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn’t gone unnoticed and I’m eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I’m getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can’t wait to get on the road and live out loud! Our passion has only grown stronger.”

The cancelled dates run across January and February. They are:

The return to the live arena suggests Green Day’s previously announced Emirates Stadium date on June 1st looks a good bet to go ahead as planned.
