Foo Fighters make an emotional return to Glastonbury for ‘The Churnups’ secret set
The band took to the Pyramid Stage earlier this evening.
After weeks of speculating as to who The Churnups could be, Foo Fighters played the Pyramid Stage’s sunset slot for an emotional return to Worthy Farm.
Entering and kicking into ‘All My Life’ without announcing themselves, Dave Grohl soon acknowledged their early stage time, declaring “We’ve only got one hour so we’ve got to make sure we fit all the songs in that we can.”
After breaking into an early ‘Learn to Fly’ and ‘Rescued’, ‘The Pretender’ was preceded by the singer acknowledging their previous 2017 headline set (“Last time you all sang this shit loud…”) before Grohl joked about their not-so-secret slot. “You knew it was us the whole time right? We’re not very good at keeping secrets.”
‘My Hero’ made for an early, heartfelt sing-along, before Grohl introduced the band including new live drummer Josh Freese, who was heralded as “the person that helped us be here tonight”. New song ‘Show Me How’ saw the band bring out Dave’s daughter Violet Grohl to duet before the vocalist made reference to Foo Fighters’ recently-teased 2024 tour. “We usually play this one as our way of saying goodbye because we never like saying goodbye, but I already know we’re coming back next summer for a whole fucking tour.”
He then dedicated a final ‘Everlong’ to the band’s legendary drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away last year, instructing the crowd to “sing this one loud as shit for Mr. T”.
